8th Grade Wisdom

I teach junior high English. Some call me crazy. I consider myself eager for a good challenge. Here are the words of wisdom I received this past week:

Student - "Miss Dunn, do you understand your options in life?"

Me - "In what sense?"

Student - "Well, I was talking to my uncle and he says I either need to find a great job or marry a wealthy man. It's the same for you. I figure we're not meant to work, so we better find rich men."

Me - "Oh, really?"

Student - "You haven't found either, so I think you need to work on that."

Me - "Awesome. I will get on that."

I am glad people care enough about me to offer counsel and advice. There are great friends and acquaintances watching out for me wherever I go. I consider many of them angels. I don't know if my student thinks I am a lost cause, but I figure I am not too bad off.

I read this great quote in the Ensign yesterday. It is a quote by Boyd K. Packer of the Twelve Apostles. He says, "If you are helpless, he is not. If you are are lost, he is not. If you don't know what to do next, he knows. It would take a miracle, you say? Well, if it takes a miracle, why not?"

I say, "Bring it on!"

  3. I myself have decided that our only options are to marry a rich man or to resort to piracy. :) Love you! You should allow followers so we can get automatic updates when you write.

it finally happened...

well folks, it finally happened. he picked up the ring, he popped the question, he talked to my dad, and i said yes.

It's been awhile....

I think there are three of you who read my blog. You're all a big deal though, so I decided to write again for you three people. I am hoping this post may be slightly therapeutic too, because I sure need some of that. We are on week five of our school year, and it seems like every time I get slightly comfortable something occurs that makes me very uncomfortable. I won't divulge too many details, but needless to say I came away feeling violated, disgusting, and not very trusting. Luckily for me, the scriptures had just the right answers when I needed them most. I am reading about Mormon in the actual book of Mormon. He is dealing with the Nephites who are described as being so disobedient that Mormon doesn't give a full account "that ye might not have too much sorrow because of the wickedness of this people." (Mormon 5: 9) Sound like a world we live in? Mormon previously states a perfect description of my feelings of this "wicked" state when he shares his...

only in the big A town...

cowboy and i are trying to figure out where we are going to live when we get hitched. it's a tricky thing. not only am i marrying a cowboy, i am also marrying a man who owns a few horses, a large and shiny horse trailer, a monster truck, a car, a couple of snow machines, a snow machine trailer, and some other large items. needless to say, rexburg and its tricky parking are not working out in our favor. we need parking, some sort of barn, and some dirt to play around in. so, nick's mom mentioned that there was a neat place for sale in the big A town of arco, idaho. we saw pictures online and decided we wanted to go out and see it. we also needed someone to take engagement pictures, because the other arrangements fell through. come to find out nick has a friend named boone who does it all - he took our pictures and was the realtor too. we snapped some shots, looked at some property, posed for some other takes, and discussed placing an offer. folks, this is what i call being effic...
